            gives community a playground

Centacare housing services manager Geoff Wallace is beyond excited by the generous donation of a playground for the Mitchell Apartments.

“It’s really worked,” Mr Wallace said. “The residents have barbecues together, grow vegies together.  When we were building it, I always wanted to drive past one day and see everyone sitting outside having a barbecue, and that actually happened the other day and that is exactly why we are doing what we are doing here.”
Mr Wallace described the playground as the “last piece of the puzzle”.  The Courier

The Apartments which were formerly a hotel, have been renovated and for the past 12 months leased to individuals and families under the National Rental Affordability Scheme.

The people who have made the apartments their home are now part of a thriving community, working together and supporting each other.

The playground is the final piece, the one thing that was just not able to fit in the budget for Centacare.  Now the children of the community have a safe place to play.
