Donegan’s Farm visit

Each year a donation is made to CAFS (Child and Family Services Ballarat) through a Ballarat Foundation sub-fund set up by Val Sarah, AM DSJ. Funds were used in early 2017 to take the Children and Families in the Foster Care program to Donegan's Farm for a morning trip.

Not every child in Ballarat will return to school this week with the essentials. Many don’t have or have outgrown their shoes or basic uniform items. Your donation of $50 will give a struggling family the means to buy shoes or clothing that fit and are in good repair and will send a child to school confident and ready to learn.

Friday 20th February, Tim Owen gathered his friends, family and supporters to celebrate the awarding of the 2015 Janine Owen Education Fund Grant. Janine Owen Education Support Fund is an in-memorium fund of The Ballarat Foundation and provides assistance to a Ballarat public high school student who has decided to study Bachelor of Commerce at Federation University.

Both women are passionate about making a difference in the lives of women and girls through educating and advocating for mindful philanthropy to projects and organisations with a view to whether the unique needs of women and girls are being considered.

Congratulations to Ballarat Secondary College East Campus students, Jasmine Gauci and Mia Delmage, who rose to the challenge to win the sixth annual Peter Doherty Science Award presented by Federation University in November 2014. “In cooking recipes, it says to add salt to the water and we wondered why?” Mia said. “I think it is because it raises the boiling point, it makes the pasta cook quicker.”

In 2015, two Victorian women will tour North America as winners of the Matthew George Young Stockman Award. Jackie Elliott from Byaduk near Hamilton was the recipient in 2014 with a particular interest in the education of youth in beef practices, whilst Kate Henne from Yan Yean, co-award winner in 2013, will be exploring the stud cattle industry in the USA and Canada.

This year saw 1000 vouchers distributed to school children & their families from 44 different schools and agencies throughout our region with the area stretching as far as Ararat in the west, Darley in the east, Clunes in the north and Lal Lal to the south.

GREASE was the word by the lake last night.The Pink Ladies were there, as was a very young Sandy and hundreds of others, to watch a Twilight Cinema screening of the classic musical from the seventies at Fairyland. The crowd joined in the chorus of much loved songs like Summer Nights, Hopelessly Devoted to You and Greased Lightning, revving up before the grand finale of You’re the One That I Want. Chills were multiplying even though the autumn weather was quite balmy.

Ms Rachael Wheeler a young cattle breeder from Dubbo in New South is named the 2010 Matthew George Young Stockman Award winner. Living in Rural NSW city of Dubbo, Rachael was first introduced to the cattle industry by her aunt, Lyn Frecklington, who took Rachael and her younger sister to an Angus Youth Roundup at Albury Wodonga. In her own words Rachael was "completely hooked", with cattle being the focus of her life ever since.

Ms Clare Bruggemann a young breeder and University Student from Mallala in South Australia flew to Melbourne to receive the award.
