To help get you started, the Ballarat Foundation have put together a few hints and tips to help get you off the couch and back out into the great outdoors. And its all for a great cause as funds raised will go towards Back to School Vouchers to assist families purchase all the necessary items to excel in their education.

  1. Find a friend – One of the best strategies to get you back out the door is to meet a friend. Arrange to meet someone for a walk or run at a particular time, that way you can avoid procrastinating. Exercising with a friend is also more fun and a social catch up is good for your wellbeing too.
  2. Start of simple – start off with some shorter walks to get you started. There’s no need to rush into long distances especially if you have been inactive for a while. Gradually building up the kms will have less risk of causing injury.
  3. Set short term goals – There’s no point in setting an unachievable or huge goal from the outset. Make sure you set short term goals to get you started. It could be trying to walk or run four times a week. If you set achievable goals, you will be happy with your achievement and be more likely to stick with it.
  4. Persist – Remember you are not going to achieve results over night. You need to show persistence and show up even when you don’t feel like it. Over time, changes will become your new norm or habits. It won’t be long before you can’t go without your morning walk!
  5. The greater good – think about how registering for the Federation University Run for a Cause virtual event will be benefiting your community. All funds raised will go towards helping kids in our local community be school ready.
