Peter Amor Sports Participation Fund

The Peter Amor Sports Participation Grants are an annual grants program delivered by the Ballarat Foundation and United Way Inc.

Set up in Peter’s honour by his family from funds generously bequeathed by Peter, this fund will help young children from disadvantaged backgrounds to participate in sport by assisting with some of the financial barriers that may otherwise prevent this.

Peter was a founding member of the Ballarat Foundation in 1983 and was very proud of what the Foundation had been able to achieve. He was awarded Ballarat Foundation Ambassador in 2011 and that was very dear to him. He continued to serve on the Board of Directors for the Ballarat foundations for many years.

Peter was passionate about keeping Ballarat money within Ballarat to help Ballarat people. Although he was a very private person, this motivated him to publicly say that he was donating money to the Foundation in his will, in the hope it could encourage others to do the same.

Peter saw sport as a way to forge strong friendships, to learn about yourself and others, to be part of a team and community – and to have fun. Peter’s love of sport continued into adulthood, and he was heavily involved in many different sports over the years. Peter coached children swimming in Warracknabeal, and himself enjoyed playing football, squash, tennis, swimming, skiing, surfing, and spending many, many hours watching his own children and grandchildren play different sports, cheering them on from the sidelines.

Peter would be extremely happy that the money he has donated is now working to help children of Ballarat to enjoy many forms of sport through the Peter Amor Sports Participation Fund. Children and sport was a passion of his. He always felt sport participation helped children strive to be their best and keep them entertained.
